Simon Clarke is the Director of the Core General Education Program and Associate Professor of Philosophy at the Asian University for Women, Bangladesh. He studied at the University of Auckland, New Zealand and received his doctorate from Oxford University. He has also taught at the University of Canterbury (NZ) and the American University of Armenia. He is the author of Foundations of Freedom: Welfare-Based Arguments Against Paternalism (Routledge, 2012) as well as articles published in the Journal of Political Philosophy, Political Studies, Ethical Perspectives, Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy, and Journal of Applied Philosophy.
Speech description: In this presentation I will discuss two questions regarding trust and government. First, is it important that people trust government and if so, why? Second, why do people trust or distrust government and why should or shouldn’t they? I will present some answers to these questions.
